Top Internet Takedowns Of Alex Ovechkin After Another Early Playoff Exit
With the Pittsburgh Penguins out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, our attention has shifted to rooting against Metropolitan Division rivals.
As such, the second round matchup between the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers left Penguins fans conflicted.
On the one hand, you've got the team that has eliminated the Penguins the past two seasons. On the other, there's the hated Washington Capitals and Alex Ovechkin.
Washington raced out to a 3-1 series lead before suffering the same fate as the Penguins a year ago. In Game 7, the Rangers prevailed 2-1 in overtime to send the Capitals packing.
Henrik Lundqvist stopped 35 shots in the win.
The weird part? Exactly one year to the day, Lundqvist made 35 saves in a 2-1 win over the Penguins...in Game 7.
Much has been made about the Penguins not winning another Stanley Cup since 2009. Heck, even the Discovery Channel took a big shot at the Penguins on Thursday. Discovery Channel is based in Silver Spring, Maryland. While unconfirmed, it's safe to assume someone at the controls of their Twitter account is a Caps fan. Have to give them credit though, this is pretty good.
@penguins Strange. Our latest observations show no Penguin activity currently on ice in Pittsburgh. Where did they go?

After Game 6, Alex Ovechkin essentially guaranteed victory in the series finale.
With that in mind, we all know death and taxes are guarantees in life. But, another is the Washington Capitals blowing a 3-1 series lead - this was the fifth time in franchise history this has happened.
Another still is Ovechkin bowing out before the Conference Finals.
Much like Sidney Crosby, the loss isn't solely on Ovechkin - he even scored the opening goal in Game 7. However, when you're the face of the franchise and one of the league's superstars, criticism tends to follow.
With that in mind, here's some of our favorite Twitter takedowns of Ovechkin in the immediate aftermath of yet another early elimin-8-ion.
