Toomey Endorsing Rubio In Presidential Race

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Pennsylvania Sen. Pat Toomey is endorsing Florida Sen. Marco Rubio for the Republican presidential nomination.

Toomey told reporters Wednesday that his decision revolved around who has the best chance of winning and who will make a great president. He also says he believes Rubio will be a strong candidate in Pennsylvania, a state that has supported Democrats in every general election since 1988.

Toomey is running for a second six-year term in the November election.

Toomey chose Rubio over another colleague in the U.S. Senate, Ted Cruz of Texas, and two neighboring state governors, Chris Christie of New Jersey and John Kasich of Ohio.

Toomey's move comes amid worries by some top Pennsylvania Republicans that the nomination of Cruz or Donald Trump could sour Pennsylvania's moderate voters against Toomey.
