Tony Greco: Safe Bet For Conner Playing Some Defensive End
PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- The Pitt Panthers are currently in the middle of spring football practice. One of the story lines from the Panthers' bowl win was running back James Conner also playing at defensive end.
Tony Greco of Panther Digest said to expect that to continue in the 2014 regular season.
"He'll get a look at defensive end specifically. I think they'll be okay with tackle," Greco told Paul Zeise. "I think until they can get somebody that can put some pressure on the quarterback, which they need from those end spots. I think it's a safe bet to say that we'll see Conner there maybe 8-10 snaps. I don't think every game, but at least to start until they find somebody that they settle with or somebody that they're comfortable with."
Zeise asked Greco if quarterback Chad Voytik, who will be a redshirt sophomore in the fall, has picked up where he left off in the second half of the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl.
"Watching him for the first week, that's one thing where it looks like there's a sense of comfort. He doesn't look like a guy that's doing this for the first time," Greco said. "There's some continuity there, you don't see too much barking from (Head Coach) Paul Chryst and (Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator) Joe Rudolph. It's mostly because they've worked with him for so long. So far so good, and we'll see what he does here with the next 11 practices."
