Bicyclist hit by vehicle on Route 8 dies

Rt. 8 crash investigation underway

SHALER TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) -- A bicyclist died after being hit and killed by the driver of a vehicle on Route 8 early Thursday morning.

The crash happened near the intersection of Butler Plank Road just before 5 a.m. Shaler Township police said the crash involved a vehicle. The victim was later identified as 54-year-old Daniel Ramage.

Allegheny County police said the bicyclist was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Police said the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and spoke to officers. The preliminary investigation shows the bicyclist was crossing the highway when he was hit, county police said.

Allegheny County Police Crash Reconstruction team has responded to the scene to help Shaler police.

Remembering Daniel Ramage

Sean Ramage says his brother was a strong man who he loved very much.

"I looked up to him," he said. "I like the fact we'd have long conversations. He was very knowledgeable."

Daniel Ramage was hit and killed by the driver of a pick-up truck on Route 8.

"I think he was crossing Butler Plank Road. He probably looked both ways and estimated he could make it across safely," Sean Ramage said.

Funeral arrangements for Daniel Ramage have yet to be set.

"I was shocked because I couldn't say goodbye," Sean Ramage said.
