Teens Charged With Attacking 4 In California Borough
CALIFORNIA, Pa. (KDKA) -- Three teenagers are facing serious charges in the alleged assault of four people over the weekend in Washington County.
Kayne Jackson and Tyler Yuille, both 19, and both of Monessen, along with a 14-year-old boy from Donora are accused in the random assault on a street corner in California Borough.
It happened around 1:20 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Second and Union Streets.
The victims told police they were heading home from a nearby diner when they turned into a dimly-lit area and were attacked, punched and kicked until they were bleeding.
"I got clocked across the face from behind," said one victim who did not want to be identified. "Turned around for, like, a brief second, got hit again -- tall lanky kid, that's the only kid I saw. I went down. I was getting kicked, stomped, my friend's girlfriend screamin.'"
That victim attends California University -- two others were visiting from out of town.
Authorities later found the suspects near Rotary Park. Yuille reportedly had a large cut on his hand and may have been missing an earring like one that was found near the scene.
"We had descriptions, we had officers out patrolling the area," said California Borough Police Officer Tim Sheehan. "Small town, they kind of stuck out a little bit, with the description and we found them pretty fast."
Jackson also admitted to police that a baseball cap also found at the scene was his.
Police think it was a random attack.
The victims were treated at Washington Hospital.
The teens are facing a long list of charges including ethnic intimidation, aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment and reckless endangerment.
Jackson and Yuille were being held in the Washington County Jail on $50,000 bond.
The 14-year-old is in the Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Center in Ohio.
