13-Year-Old Boy Shot In McKeesport, Police Investigating
MCKEESPORT (KDKA) -- A boy is in critical condition after being shot Sunday morning in McKeesport. Allegheny County Police are searching for who pulled the trigger.
For much of the early early, county homicide detectives were in an alleyway near Stewart Street and Powderly Street laying out evidence markers.
Neighbors who live nearby said it's all too common of a site.
"It's the reality of living in this area. It's been going on for years," one neighbor said who didn't want to be identified for their safety.
They said none of this shocks them anymore. They heard several shots fired while they where sleeping.
"Because this happens so frequently. I just rolled over," they said on their front porch.
According to police, it was just after 5:25 Sunday morning when McKeesport Police learned of a shooting. Officers arrived to find a teenager shot. One investigator told KDKA he was 13-years-old.
"I seriously doubt there was any witnesses because where the shooting occurred, there's no houses. It's not lit," the neighbor said.
They said there was a shooting behind their house last year. Other neighbors spoke off camera and said more of the same. One had their house shot at in the past.
"Parents need to be a lot more vigilant. Make sure the children are in the house or where they're supposed to be, and that they don't have a gun hidden in their room," the one neighbor told KDKA.
The McKeesport Area School District has said that counselors and social workers will be available throughout the week to support staff and students.
Police said the boy is in critical condition. No word on any suspects. County police homicide detectives continue to investigate.
