Teen Stabs Grandmother Because He Doesn't Like Living With Her, Family Says

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A 19-year-old is in custody for a stabbing attack at his home.

The victim is the suspect's own grandmother.

"I tried to raise him the best and get him the help he needed," said his mother, Jennifer Twaddle.

Twaddle says it hasn't been an easy road raising her son, Morgan Taylor.

She says he's had his fair share of mental health problems.

"I've been trying to help him get a job and get stable," said Twaddle.

But she says she never expected this.

"Through the interview we learned he didn't like his grandma and he sat and waited for her to come down the steps at which time he attacked her with a knife," said New Castle Police Chief Robert Salem.

Police say he took a carver's knife from the kitchen and waited.

According the criminal complaint, he sat and waited for his grandmother Donna Twaddle to come downstairs for about 30 minutes. He tried to stab her in the back when she turned around, tried to grab the knife off of him then got stabbed in the face, neck and arms.

She managed to get away and waited on the front porch for help.

Neighbors came to the rescue since no one else was home at the time.

Then, they called Taylor's mom.

"My neighbors said 'don't go in there, he's crazy,'" said Jennifer Twaddle. "And I said, 'I'm going the hell in there, I don't give a bleep.'"

When asked why Taylor would go after his grandma, Twaddle said he didn't like the fact that she was staying with them.

She says she also hasn't spoken to her son since the incident.

"Maybe I should let him sit there and suffer to see what it feels like to not have your parents around," Twaddle said.

Taylor's grandmother was flown to a hospital in Youngstown. Police said her injuries are serious, but her daughter says she should be coming home soon.

Police say Taylor initially claimed self-defense before he told them what really happened.

He's at the Lawrence County Jail facing multiple charges including criminal attempted homicide and aggravated assault.

His bond is set at $100,000.
