Teen Leaving Basketball Game At Wilkinsburg High School Shot, Wounded

WILKINSBURG (KDKA) -- Police are investigating after a teenager was wounded in a shooting just after he left a basketball game at Wilkinsburg High School.

Investigators are trying to figure out if the teen was the target or not.

The Wilkinsburg Tigers basketball team had just finished up their game against Propel Andrew Street around 9 p.m. Wednesday when the shooting happened.

People were leaving the game, among them was the 18-year-old victim from Penn Hills.

"The victim exited the North Avenue side of the Wilkinsburg High School, walked up towards Center Street and approximately four to five shots were fired at him," said Detective Rich Grande, of the Wilkinsburg Police Department. "The victim was hit in the back of the leg and the arm."

The victim had been walking with a group, but only he was hit in the gunfire.

"At this point, we believe the shooter was on foot and fled the scene on foot," said Detective Grande.

The shooting prompted the superintendent to increase security in the high school building on Thursday, and Wilkinsburg Police were present when students arrived for class.

"We are also going to, as a precaution, tomorrow night's basketball game with Leetsdale was supposed to start at 7. We are moving the time to 4 o'clock," said Superintendent Dr. Daniel Matsook. "We may also change the remaining of our home games to after school or make them away games."

Police say they have no suspects at this time, but they are using every resource available.

"We are reviewing some video and ballistics that we were recovered," Detective Grande said.
