Swissvale Woman To Stand Trial For DUI Crash That Hurt 6 Kids
PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) - A woman must stand trial on charges she crashed her car while driving drunk, injuring six children in the process.
Twenty-eight-year-old Raelynn Thompson, of Swissvale, on Monday waived her right to a preliminary hearing on charges including drunken driving, reckless endangerment and other crimes. Her public defender declined to comment on the allegations.
Thompson was arrested after crashing into a concrete barrier along an Interstate 376 exit ramp shortly before 3 a.m. Jan. 18.
State police say the children aged 6 to 13 and sustained moderate to minor injuries and none were wearing seat belts.
A trooper on the scene of the accident reported that Thompson had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath and bloodshot, glossy eyes. Police say her speech was slurred and she couldn't perform a field sobriety test.
Thompson has twice been convicted of driving with a suspended license and was already awaiting trial on aggravated assault, resisting arrest and public drunkenness for allegedly scuffling with police in October.
