Suspicious Car At Downtown Amtrak Station Prompts Bomb Squad Response

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) –- A suspicious SUV at the downtown Amtrak station prompted a response from Pittsburgh police and the bomb squad Friday morning.

Amtrak officials initially contacted police about a car that had been parked overnight.

"Usually, vehicles come in, drop people off and they leave. They don't stay overnight. The vehicle had been there, I guess, since late last night," said Pittsburgh Police Zone 2 Lt. Daniel Reed.

When bomb-sniffing dogs checked out the vehicle, something alerted them and the surrounding area was shut down.

Police busted out the windows of the vehicle. They searched the SUV thoroughly, but didn't find anything.

After about a half hour, the streets were re-opened.

Now, police will try to contact the owner of that SUV.
