Suspects Sought After Pizza Shop Robbed, Employee Shot
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police are looking for two men who robbed the Highland Park Domino's, shooting an employee in the process.
It happened just after midnight Saturday at the pizza shop on Sheridan Avenue.
Watch the Surveillance Video here:
Surveillance video shows two black males entering the store, one holding a handgun, and the other carrying a yellow plastic bag and demanding money from a male employee.
One suspect is seen pointing the gun at the cashier while he takes money out of the register and then shoots him in the arm.
Police say the 23-year-old employee was taken to the hospital in good condition.
Police are still looking for both suspects.
KDKA's Trina Orlando reports:
One is described as about 18- to 25-years-old, 5-feet-7-inches tall, 150 pounds with a thin build and was wearing a skull-patterned ski mask. The second suspect is described as 5-feet-7-inches tall, about 200 pounds and was wearing a blue hoodie.
Police say they're wanted in at least one other robbery.
"In one case, they shot one of the clerks in one of the stores," said Pittsburgh Police Sgt. Mike Pilyih. "And in the second case, they attempted to shoot an eyewitness that was trying to subdue them, but the gun didn't go off."
Four robberies in 24 hours during the coldest weather in years in the city -- eight robberies in a week. Police are trying to figure out why.
"Burglaries, things like that, seem to take a lot more work," Pilyih said. "It seems to me that these kids are not afraid to go in and do these robberies."
KDKA's Marty Griffin reports:
Hours after releasing the surveillance video from the Domino's robbery, police were then called out to investigate two more armed robberies.
Around 8 p.m., police were called to the BP on Evergreen Road.
The suspect was reportedly wearing a black hoodie and black pants. He was carrying a silver handgun.
Around the same time, there was a holdup at the Circle K Mini Mart on Butler Street in Lawrenceville.
Police say the robber had a mask on and was wearing a Carhartt jacket.
Police say they believe those two incidents could possibly be connected.
Investigators say they are also concerned about the weapons used at a Sunoco robbery last week. Suspects used a semi-automatic TEC-9 weapon. Police say it's easily converted into a machine gun.
It's unclear how much cash they got away with.
Meanwhile, police say a tragedy was averted in a Family Dollar robbery last week when a bystander tackled the armed robber.
Fortunately, the robber used the wrong bullets and the gun would not fire.
