Suspect taken into custody after domestic incident in Shaler Township
SHALER TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - Last night, a rolling domestic dispute happened across several towns and municipalities in Allegheny County. At one point four different departments were working to apprehend the suspect.
In Shaler, several police cars were trying to apprehend a violent driver.
Around 4 p.m. in Ross Township, police were alerted to be on the lookout for a Kia Forte that had a 21-year-old driver, Kenneth Sharp-Haymon, who was driving erratically and assaulting the female passenger in the car with him.
Not long after the call, Shaler Township police spotted the car driving at a high rate of speed on Mt. Royal Boulevard near Wetzel Road. Officers not only witnessed the car speeding but they saw the passenger side door wide open and it nearly collided with one of their cruisers.
Not long after, the manhunt began.
"The search went on for approximately an hour," said Sean Frank, Shaler Township Police Chief. "We received a couple of tips that he was sighted here and there and on that last tip, right before 5, he was seen going down toward Glenn Ave, which is near the Harley Davidson shop. That's where they were able to corner him between some fencing and a wall and he did try to flee from them then and there was a short foot pursuit, and we were able to take him into custody without incident."
Chief Frank said they are grateful for all the help and teamwork from Ross, Etna, and Hampton police and said they couldn't have caught the suspect without the public's help.
"We've even gotten a few calls today from people who checked their Ring videos or their Nest videos," he said.
As of this morning, Sharp-Haymon is in the Allegheny County Jail awaiting arraignment on several charges.
The woman in the car with him is said to be in good condition.
