17-year-old suspect and officer exchange gunfire in Stowe Township

STOWE TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) -- A suspect and officer exchanged gunfire in Stowe Township on Tuesday afternoon, police said. 

According to Allegheny County police, officers with the McKees Rocks and Stowe Township police departments were conducting an investigation in an unmarked vehicle around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

As the officers stopped on Woodward Avenue, police said a suspect fired multiple shots at the vehicle. A McKees Rocks officer got out and returned fire, police said.

Neither officers involved were injured and the suspect ran from the scene. 

In an update on Tuesday night, police said 17-year-old Delvonte Woodson of Stowe Township was taken into custody and will be charged as an adult in connection with the shots fired incident. He is facing a list of charges, including criminal attempt homicide, assault of a law enforcement officer and illegal possession of a firearm.

Woodward Avenue was closed between Dohrman Street and Seventh Street and officials asked people to avoid the area. 

County police are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the county police tipline at 1-833-ALL-TIPS.
