Suspect in critical condition after being shot by Pa. Attorney General agent at Greyhound station
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — It was a scary moment for passengers on the bus and those waiting to board when two people got into an altercation that spilled into the Downtown Pittsburgh Greyhound station concourse on Wednesday.
"I wake up, and I heard the guy was fighting with the guy that was there," passenger Yannick Sankara told KDKA-TV.
According to police, just before 7 a.m., they responded to the station for what was described as a "critical incident." They said it began on the bus and then continued to the concourse. That's when, officials say, members of the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office witnessed one man threaten another with a knife.
At that point, the agents stepped in.
Police later added that Rayshon Mason and another man began fighting after the man accused Mason of taking pictures of his family on a bus.
The man told police that Mason tried to stab them. Agents with the state attorney's general's office happened to be nearby, and two of them shot Mason.
He faces a charge of attempted homicide.
"They intervened in order to stop the threat. The male would not drop the knife and to stop the threat, one of the agents discharged his duty weapon, shooting the male with a knife," Pittsburgh Public Public Safety PIO Cara Cruz said.
Wednesday's violent incident caused people to ask if more is being done to improve public safety at the station.
"I'm sure that's always a goal. I don't know of anything that's in the works at the moment," Cruz said.
That suspect was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition. No one was stabbed, but investigators said the other man involved in this incident fell and hit his head on the ground during the altercation.
KDKA-TV has learned that the agents with the attorney general's office were at the station as part of an unrelated drug investigation.
