Storms Prompt Tornado Warning In Butler Co.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Severe weather moving across the Pittsburgh region Thursday evening prompted several severe weather alerts, including a Tornado Warning.

The Tornado Warning for Butler County was canceled by the National Weather Service around 10 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Evans City.

That's where some damage is being reported. There are reports of trees down on Spithaler School Road and Brownsdale Road.

Other parts of the area, mostly northern areas, were under Severe Thunderstorm Warnings.

The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Armstrong, Butler, Cambria, Clearfield, Indiana and Westmoreland counties through 11:15 p.m.

Forecasters say residents should watch for hail, high winds, lightning and other dangerous conditions during these storms.

KDKA's Jon Burnett says conditions tonight will be partly cloudy and humid overnight with more storms mainly north until midnight.

"A cold front coming through now, that's what triggered the tornado warning," said Burnett. "Once that front gets by and sufficiently passed us, out of the region, in other words, we'll start to get a nice northerly flow. That dry air will help to calm things down for our next several days in a row."

A Flood Advisory was also issued for Jefferson County through 1:15 a.m.
