Steve Blass: Yasiel Puig "Makes Me Sick"

PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan) - The Pirates are in the midst of a 10-game, cross-country road trip.

Pirates broadcaster Steve Blass joined Colin Dunlap Saturday on Bucco Talk to discuss the trip.

The Pirates are playing the Dodgers, who feature Yasiel Puig. Dunlap asked Blass how he feels about Puig specifically, as well other players who are exuberant and maybe over the top in some people's eyes.

"He makes me sick," Blass said. "I'm just not a real big fan of that kind of thing. I love exuberance, but it can be done in a way that doesn't show people up, doesn't make you like a fool, and I've got him in those last two categories."

Blass added that he's not opposed to celebrations.

"I have a deep respect for professionalism," Blass said. "Guys can celebrate. A guy hits a home run, if he doesn't go crazy, I understand that, and that's okay."

Francisco Liriano picked up his first win of the season Friday night. Dunlap asked if it's the beginning of a turnaround.

"I have no idea, Frankie has no idea, Clint Hurdle has no idea, Ray Searage has no idea because you don't know what's going to happen with a starter each and every night. It was better, let's put it that way," Blass said.

Blass continued that Friday's win reminded him of 2013.

"It brought me back to the entire 2013 season because that's the way we won the games," Blass said. "That is so rare that you push each and every button for what, three or four relievers in a night and they all get the job done? That doesn't happen. But it happened all last year, and it happened (Friday) night."
