Steelers GM Kevin Colbert Says They Have Some Tough Decisions To Make
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan)- Pittsburgh Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert joined "The Cook and Poni Show" on Wednesday from Indianapolis as he and the other general managers gear up for the NFL Combine.
"When you are 8-8, you have needs all over," Colbert said.
He won't commit to a certain player or draft need, but he wants to draft the best players available.
One player they would not shy away from is Missouri DE Michael Sam.
"We won't discriminate against anyone," Colbert said.
Colbert said this is a huge weekend towards the Steelers offseason and will help answer some questions about where they will go, not only in the draft, but how they will handle free agency.
"We have some decisions to make," Colbert said. "We have some cap issues, but it's not overwhelming. We have got to go through the whole process and make the best decisions we can. There are so many moving parts. This will continue up to the free agency March 11 deadline and beyond."
Colbert told the guys that he can't discuss individual contracts, but admits that traditionally they have addressed the quarterbacks two years out.
"We all recognize we are very fortunate to have a franchise QB," Colbert said. "He still has a lot of tread on the tires. We feel great about how last season finished and we hope to build on that. It's unanimous we all want Ben to finish his career here."
