Steelers GM Kevin Colbert: Draft Unfolded Just The Way We Wanted

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan)- Pittsburgh Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert joined "The Cook and Poni Show" on Tuesday morning to recap the NFL Draft.

"It unfolded as good as we could have hoped," Colbert said.

Colbert said the first two picks are two great defensive guys that could help right away.

He said this is the first time since he has been here that the Steelers are coming off of back-to-back 8-8 seasons. In the past, some of the draft picks were not expected to be a huge part of the team, but this year could be different.

"No question about it," Colbert said. "The opportunity is greater because of where we are, but also because of who they are, but they still have to go out there and prove it."

Colbert also told the guys he felt comfortable enough with the secondary to not be forced into drafting a corner back with the first pick.

This has been said to be a very important and pivotal draft for the Steelers' future, but Colbert told the guys he actually thinks that last year's class is even more important.

"You expect a big jump from year one to year two. We expect more from these guys," Colbert said. "If they do what they did last year, we are more likely to be an 8-8 team than a playoff team."

Colbert said he is happy with where they are and is looking forward to getting back out on the field and putting these back-to-back 8-8 seasons behind them.
