Steelers Eyeing Improvements On Offense, Visit With 2 Free Agents
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - While the Steelers offense finished the season on a strong note this past year, there will be some pieces that need to be replaced as free agency has struck that side of the ball for them as well.
Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders has signed with the Denver Broncos and now, Jerricho Cotchery is visiting with the Carolina Panthers. As a result, the Steelers could be very thin at that position in a hurry.
In an attempt to get quarterback Ben Roethlisberger some more weapons, the Steelers brought in former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Lance Moore for a visit. Moore battled through injuries for a portion of last year while recording 37 catches for 457 yards and two touchdowns.
The 5-foot-9-inch, 190-pound receiver would appear to fit well in replacing Sanders, as he has spent most of his career as a slot receiver.
Receiver though isn't the only position on the offensive side of the ball where the Steelers are thin. With the departure of running back Jonathan Dwyer to the Arizona Cardinals, the only real weapon the Steelers have in their backfield is Le'Veon Bell. That could change though as the Steelers have brought in former Green Bay Packers running back James Starks for a visit.
Starks has spent his entire career as a backup, only getting chances to start when other players got injured. Last year for the Packers, Starks carried the ball 89 times for 493 yards while rushing for three touchdown.
No matter what the Steelers do with these two players, they'll surely continue to look for more options to surround Roethlisberger.
