Steelers Eye Safety, Tight End As NFL Draft Approaches

PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- With the Troy Polamalu-era in Pittsburgh in the rear view mirror, the Steelers may make additions to the defensive secondary through the draft.

Safeties like Shamarko Thomas, Mike Mitchell and Will Allen give the Steelers depth at that position, but none of those players has experience or skill near that of Polumalu.

The Steelers have been linked to Alabama safety Landon Collins as a possible first-round selection in the draft, but the team could also wait until the later rounds to try to fill a need at safety.

Pittsburgh is aging at other positions, specifically tight end, where two veterans will return this season over the age of 30.

Kirk Larrabee of 247Sports.com reports that the Steelers have their sights set on Jeff Heuerman, a second team All-Big Ten selection as a tight end at Ohio State.

The Steelers hosted Heuerman in a pre-draft workout.
