State Police Looking For Pickup Truck Driver In Indiana Co. Hit & Run

CLYMER (KDKA) -- State police in Indiana County are looking for the driver of a pickup truck who hit woman who was out walking Sunday night.

The hit-and-run accident happened around 10:30 p.m. on State Route 553 in Cherryhill Township.

The victim, identified as 45-year-old Leslie Bennett of Clymer, was walking to her house when a speeding pickup hit her. She was taken to at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.

But, according to our news partners at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Cambria County Coroner's Office says Bennett died Monday afternoon from her injuries.

Joseph Taylor's lived along the same stretch of 553 where the accident happened, and says he's seen his share of accidents.

"Three in the last five years," said Taylor. "I don't know why someone would walk along this road. It's dark, but she should have been seen, it's straight."

State police say Bennett was heading down 553 to her home when she was hit.

The suspected vehicle is a red pickup, possibly a Ford with a step-side bed. There should be considerable damage to the right front of the vehicle.

"Whoever hit this girl knew they hit her. Why they didn't stop is beyond me," said Taylor. "It's bad enough you hit them, you should have at least stopped."

State police say they need to hear from you if you have any information in the case.
