State police investigating school threat made on social media in Westmoreland County
GREENSBURG (KDKA) - Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a threatening message that was made on social media earlier this week.
On Monday, troopers in Greensburg were notified of a message posted to Snapchat that threatened to carry out a shooting at "Central High School."
While troopers do not have evidence that the threat is credible, they did determine that the same message and threat circulated on social media in New York two years ago.
Even so, troopers do have an increased presence at schools in the area.
The threat comes just days after Hempfield Area High School students attended the school board meeting urging them to do more to keep students safe amid a rising trend of school threats.

Students found themselves concerned after two recent safety threats, including students caught with two loaded guns and another student threatening classmates.
Police say a high schooler brought two loaded handguns to school and gave them to classmates. One on a bus and the other in a bathroom, prompting a lockdown.
The three 15-year-olds face felony charges in juvenile court, according to the Westmoreland County district attorney. After the incident, high school students were searched with metal detector wands.
State police are reminding students and parents to report threatening or suspicious activity through the Safe2SaySomething program.
