Passenger injured, driver at large after police chase ends with crash in Brighton Heights
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A Pennsylvania State Police investigation is underway in Brighton Heights after a pursuit that started around 1 a.m.
Pennsylvania State Police said troopers attempted a traffic stop in the area of Ohio River Boulevard and California Avenue for a Black Dodge Durango with traffic violations. During the stop, the vehicle fled.
The vehicle ended up crashing in the area of California Avenue and Rankin Avenue, and both the driver and passenger of the car ran away down a hillside, over Route 65 and into an industrial park.
Officers were able to catch up to the passenger, who got injured in the pursuit. The driver of the car was not found.
Many neighbors along California Avenue heard the commotion and chaos this morning. Kara Freeman said that the noise woke her up so she ran outside to see what was going on.
"Police officers were down here and from what I heard, they heard somebody -- they were screaming and yelling," Freeman said. "And it looked like they pulled out guns, so a couple of us and the neighbors ran back in the house and I heard dogs. So it was very chaotic."
The investigation is still ongoing.
