State Police: 1 Man In Custody After Uniontown Bank Robbery

UNIONTOWN (KDKA) -- State police are investigating after a bank robbery Monday afternoon in Fayette County.

It happened around 2:45 p.m. at the United Bank in the 100-block of Walnut Hill Road in Uniontown.

According to state police, the suspect was carrying a black handgun and got away with a "substantial amount of money."

After the robbery, police say the suspect – identified as 34-year-old Stephen Gaza IV of Masontown – led them on a high-speed chase from South Union Township to German Township.

He was finally taken into custody in Ronco.

Gaza is facing a long list of charges, including robbery, theft by unlawful taking, simple assault, reckless endangerment, and fleeing and eluding.

While being questioned, state police say Gaza admitted to them that he also robbed the Uniontown Super K-Mart and the Rostraver Township PNC Bank last week, and attempted to rob a Huntingdon Bank in Morgantown, West Virginia, but didn't get away with any money.

He's also facing armed robbery charges for the incident at the K-Mart.

The investigation continues.
