1 Person Killed In Crash Near Squirrel Hill Tunnels

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Inbound lanes of the Parkway East were shut down Monday evening due to a fatal two-car crash near the Squirrel Hill Tunnels.

The crash happened just after 7 p.m. when, according to a witness, a vehicle in the eastbound lane crossed over the Squirrel Hill Plaza and into the westbound lane and hit another vehicle head-on.

According to state police, the driver of the vehicle that crossed the lanes was killed in the impact. He has been identified as 27-year-old Burak Ulas of Pittsburgh.

There's no word on the condition of the other driver, who has been identified as 60-year-old Joyce Grimm.

The crash remains under investigation.

Another crash involving multiple vehicles happened sometime after that head-on collision.

Inbound lanes of the Parkway East were closed to traffic for several hours. Lanes reopened just before 9:30 p.m.
