Special Olympics Allegheny County Summer Games Held At Baldwin H.S.

BALDWIN (KDKA) - The summer Olympics begin in August in Rio de Janeiro.

But, the 33rd Annual Special Olympics Allegheny County Summer Games were held over the weekend at Baldwin High School.

It's also a qualifying event for the state competition.

Volunteers for the Special Olympics said it's a rewarding experience.

"A lot of work throughout the year but when you see an athlete smile at the finish line or when they receive a medal, it makes all the hard work worth it throughout the year," Terrence Ahlin said.

"It's heartwarming to look around and know that you help make so many people's day and helped their day become so great," Brenden Badstibner said.

The Pennsylvania Special Olympics Summer Games begin on June 2 at State College.
