South Side Bar Closed Indefinitely After Shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A bar on the South Side is closed and will remain that way indefinitely.

Allegheny District Attorney Stephen Zappala asked the owner of Rizzo's Margaritaville to close, and the owner agreed to do so voluntarily, according to a spokesperson for Zappala's office.

There was a shooting that wounded two people outside the bar over the weekend, but Pittsburgh City Council President Bruce Kraus says there have been many other problems associated with the place.

He says police have been called there more than 90 times in the last two years.

"Over the last couple months, there was a shooting outside," said Kraus. "There was a stabbing that took place outside and then this weekend another shooting. I had just plain had enough."

Kraus asked the district attorney to get involved.

Michele Tabaka lives upstairs from the bar and is pleased it's now closed. She heard the gunshots over the weekend.

"It was scary," said Tabaka. "I don't feel like I should be scared for my life or scared for what's happening outside my apartment."

The spokesperson for the district attorney's office says the next step is to gather police information about the incidents and sit down with the bar owner to discuss how to alleviate the problems before the bar could reopen.
