Snider Hoping Full Health Will Lead To Results
BRADENTON, Fla. (93-7 The Fan) - Pirates outfielder Travis Snider wasn't completely healthy in 2013 and he played in a great deal of pain during the Pirates 94-win season.
While Snider came up with some clutch hits off the bench, at times, it was very hard for the former Blue Jay to do his job at full capacity.
"I ended up having some bone spurs cleaned and a big toe removed in the big toe area - the joint of my foot," Snider said.
After playing in pain before an extended disabled list stay, Snider returned to being relegated to almost exclusively a pinch-hitter role.
Snider soon realized that he would be coming up on some surgery during his off-season to get the issue fixed once and for all. "They put four screws and a plate in there. They went in and cleaned out some spurs," he said.
Snider was on crutches for a month, but has been upright on his feet and feels a noticeable difference as he swings a bat, albeit in a batting cage or doing soft toss.
"The first three or four weeks I've been able to make some adjustments without my toe being the reason why we can't doing something," he said.
Snider recently sliced his finger while slicing a sweet potato that held him out of live action the first few days of full squad workouts at Pirate City, but over the last few days has been a full participant.
