Woman Charged Following Officer-Involved Shooting In Slippery Rock Twp.
SLIPPERY ROCK TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Charges have been filed in connection with an officer-involved shooting that sent a woman to the hospital.
Officers were called to the rural area on Copper Road between State Route 422 and Princeton Road in Slippery Rock Township around 9 a.m. Monday.
State police say a man called in a complaint to state police in New Castle on Monday morning. He reportedly told police the suspect was living at his residence for several weeks and that they were arguing.
He told police she had left his residence on foot and was in possession of a handgun.
Troopers saw her on Copper Road and then approached. Police say two troopers told her to show her hands, but instead she allegedly displayed a handgun and refused to listen to police.
The suspect, identified as Maria Rozzi from New Castle, was then shot once before she was taken by medical helicopter to a hospital for treatment. Her condition has not yet been released.
No officers were injured.
"An armed actor makes the situation dangerous not only for the troopers but the citizens in the area," said Trooper Dan Kesten.
"It's unfortunate when troopers have to use force to gain safety for themselves and for the citizens but unfortunately that is sometimes is the case."
The officers involved will likely be placed on other administrative duties.
Rozzi is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, resisting arrest and harassment.
