Bystander shot during exchange of gunfire between police and suspect at Ohio Kroger grocery store

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A bystander was shot as police and a suspect exchanged gunfire at a Kroger grocery store in Ohio on Wednesday evening. 

The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that police were called to the grocery store on Springdale Road in Colerain Township at around 4 p.m. for reports of shots fired. When officers arrived at the scene, they reportedly found the suspect outside the grocery store, and gunfire was exchanged. 

The newspaper reported that police said the suspect then ran inside the Kroger, and police and the suspect shot at each other inside the store. The suspect was shot and then taken into custody, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. 

Colerain Police Chief Edwin Cordie reportedly said a bystander was shot during the shootout. It is not clear who shot the bystander.

Both the bystander and the suspect are reportedly expected to survive their injuries. The suspect has not been identified. 

Per the police department's policy, the officers involved in the shooting have both been placed on administrative leave, the newspaper reported. 

The Springdale Road Kroger grocery store is about 12 miles outside of Cincinnati, Ohio.
