One person dies from injuries after house fire in Shaler Township
SHALER TOWNSHIP (KDKA) — One of the people rescued from a house fire in Shaler Township has died, sources told KDKA-TV.
The person died following the blaze on Burchfield Road late on Tuesday night. Two people at the scene were hospitalized in critical condition, including the person who died.
One person was outside the house when crews arrived and received CPR. The other person was rescued from the home. The fire chief said both were not breathing when they were found.
When crews arrived at the scene, the house was fully engulfed in flames. Before firefighters arrived, neighbors say they did their best to try to rescue the two men.
"Seemed like everyone was coming out of the woodwork screaming fire, trying to get everybody out of the house," neighbor Valera Hodill said.
The home was destroyed, and an investigation is now underway to determine the cause. Meanwhile, neighbors are trying to come to terms with what happened. A memorial has been created near the home.
"We love you and we're praying for you and we're hoping for the best," neighbor Jean Kirk said.
The names of the victims have yet to be released, but neighbors said the man who died was known for his smile.
"The neighborhood suffered a loss for sure," neighbor Shelley Nilson said.
On Saturday morning, the victim was identified as 55-year-old Anthony Garland.
