Flash flood warning issued for parts of Pittsburgh area

KDKA-TV Nightly Forecast (4/2)

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Due to severe storms rolling through the area on Tuesday night, a flash flood warning is in place for all of Southwestern Pennsylvania.

The warning has been issued for Allegheny, Fayette, Greene, Washington, Westmoreland, Armstrong, Butler, Indiana, Beaver and Lawrence counties until 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday.

The tornado watch that was issued for Allegheny, Beaver, Greene and Washington counties expired just after 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

"Flooding remains a major concern as thunderstorms with heavy rain continue overnight into Wednesday morning," National Weather Service Pittsburgh said on social media.

Alert: Tuesday and Wednesday are First Alert Weather Days due to rain, storms and flooding.

Aware: An active weather pattern is expected this week, with even snow in the forecast.

Tuesday has the potential to be one of the wettest days in years in Pittsburgh and surrounding communities.

Flood warnings and watches are in effect for our region today with some areas already seeing an inch of rain. Pittsburgh's daily record rain amount is 1.44 inches set in 2007.

Heavy rain should begin to ease through the afternoon, but then the focus shifts to possible severe storms from mid-afternoon through late Tuesday night. Gusty winds are the biggest concern with possible hail and tornadoes along with ongoing flooding. Please stay weather aware and have a way to get severe weather warnings on your phone or at home.

Colder air invades behind this system Wednesday with temperatures falling through the day and rain/snow showers likely both Thursday and Friday.

The Pirates home opener may end up dry but it will be chilly only in the mid to upper 40s.

The weekend warms up and we have much warmer air on the way next week.
