Police say several faculty members and the principal received an email threatening violence against students and staff, including mentions of killing students and staff.

"It specifically talked about bloodshed, bloodshed in the hallways, bullets, stuff like that," Mt. Lebanon Deputy Chief Aaron Lauth said.

Officers say the email also made mention of incidents that occurred at Columbine High School and Sandy Hook Elementary School.

"The author of the email did make attempts to remain anonymous or hide their identity, so we are currently trying to track down the source of the email," said Chief Lauth.

Mt. Lebanon Police and the FBI are investigating the source of the email.

The school will follow the directives of law enforcement in decisions about when to re-open. When that will happen remains uncertain.

"What we have decided is that we are going to leave that up to the FBI; they will inform us when it is okay for school to open," said Bishop David Zubik.

Officials say the safety of students is the highest priority, and that is why they took such drastic precautions.
