Senate OKs Bill To Allow Ride-Sharing Companies To Operate
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - The Pennsylvania Senate has approved legislation to allow ride-sharing companies like Uber and Lyft to operate in the state.
The Senate passed the bill Monday night, following House approval last week.
It now heads to Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf, who says he plans to sign it.
Gov. Wolf says the legislation puts an end to any question about the operation of ride-sharing companies in Philadelphia. He says two-thirds of the revenue derived from ride sharing in the city will go to the Philadelphia School District.
Lyft calls the vote a win for drivers, passengers and commuters as well as Philadelphia's schools.
Earlier this month, a Philadelphia judge ordered Uber and Lyft to stop operating in the city. That order was suspended the next day.
