Big rig truck rolls backward, slams into New Kensington Giant Eagle

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. (KDKA) - A tractor-trailer cab rolled backward and crashed into a Giant Eagle in New Kensington.

The truck left behind a giant hole that has since been boarded up after the crash early Wednesday evening.

The unoccupied cab started rolling backward and hit a car before slamming into the store. Investigators said the driver had left the vehicle to go get something to eat.

"There was a truck here, it backed up, you heard a loud boom, then chaos, a lot of chaos," said witness Stephen Donatelli.

New Kensington police are trying to figure out how the truck started rolling.

The rig is owned and operated by A.R. Rush trucking of White Hall, West Virginia and has now been impounded for inspection. KDKA-TV's Ross Guidotti called the company to get more information on the situation but was hung up on.

"It was loud though and felt a little like a minor earthquake," Donatelli said.

The store was open at the time, but no one was injured and the store has been able to stay open.
