School Bus Overturns In Carnegie, 3 Students Injured

CARNEGIE (KDKA) – Emergency crews were called to the scene of a school bus on its side along Interstate 79 Tuesday morning.

According to police, a car collided with a school bus at the intersection of Noblestown Road and the bottom of the I-79 Carnegie offramp around 7 a.m.

First responders said the seven people on the school bus and one person in the car are all okay.

"All the injuries are minor there's a lot of debris on the roadway it looks worse than what it is," Chief David Brown said.

Authorities said the car hit the rear passenger side of the mini school bus. Six students - ranging from freshmen to seniors - were being transported by the Carlynton School District to Our Lady of Sacred Heart in Moon Township.

Three of the students were taken to Saint Clair Hospital.

"Some soreness in the back, a bloody nose. Nothing more than that, nothing life-threatening certainly," Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Principal Tim Plocinik said.

Plocinik said the bus garage initially called him to let him know what had happened. He then started calling parents.

"The parents were fine...actually that's one of the questions I asked them. How are you doing? That's what I asked them and they're fine. They're very grateful that their kids and all the kids are safe," he said.

The other students were picked up on scene by their parents. The driver of the car was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Crews say the biggest challenge was clearing the roadway and getting things back open during morning rush hour.
