Saw Mill Run Boulevard Back Open After Shaler Street Bridge Installation
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Saw Mill Run Boulevard reopened in both directions early Wednesday morning.
The three-day closure began Sunday between the Parkway West and West End Circle for installation of the new Shaler Street Bridge.
The bridge was constructed elsewhere and then moved into police in two parts on Monday and Tuesday.
PennDOT called the process "Innovative Bridge Moving Technology."
PennDOT District 11 Executive Cheryl Moon-Sirianni says this kind of "Rapid Bridge Construction," while more expensive, is preferable to long-term closures.
It was a first for PennDOT.
PennDOT said drivers shouldn't be concerned about traveling underneath the new span. All that's left is work off to the sides.
