Westmoreland County Go Van Collides With Tractor Trailer On Route 22

SALEM TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Crews are responding to a crash that involved a van and a tractor-trailer on Route 22 in Westmoreland County.

According to authorities, a Westmoreland County Go Van and a tractor-trailer collided near the intersection of Route 22 and Route 8-19 in Salem Township.

Witnesses say the truck ran a red light, which led to the accident.

"The first passenger was hit by the truck that had run the red light and he was lying on the ground," said Kim Kelley, a witness of the accident. "The next gentleman was nonverbal, he was in a wheelchair and the impact was so hard that it almost collapsed his wheelchair. Then the third patient, the little girl, her head went through the back window and her top half was hanging out the window. Her bottom half was still strapped into her wheelchair."

Four people were in the Westmoreland County Go Van at the time of the crash. They have been transported to a local hospital but do not have life-threatening injuries.

"It could have been a lot worse," added Kelley. "If they wouldn't have been seat belted in, it would've been really bad."

Police have not said if the driver of the tractor-trailer will be facing any charges.
