Family dog killed, 2 firefighters hurt in Ross Township house fire
ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Two firefighters were injured and a family pet was killed in a house fire in Ross Township on Tuesday morning.
The two-alarm fire was first reported around 7:45 a.m. at a two-story home on Norbert Street.
Fire crews pulled the family dog out of the home and tried to resuscitate the animal, but the pup died from injuries, KDKA's Ross Guidotti reports from the scene.
Smoke was seen billowing from the house with white siding and dark shutters. Firefighters put up ladders and were trying to douse hot spots from the front porch of the house.
Two firefighters were injured and treated at the scene, including one who apparently bailed out of a window. Both are expected to make a full recovery.
Crews also had to deal with ammunition that was being kept into the house.
The house is located a short distance from the Fairview Volunteer Fire Department. They were able to get to the scene quickly.
While it appears the fire started in the basement, the Allegheny County fire marshal and the Ross Township fire marshal are looking in to the cause.
The Red Cross is helping the people who lived in the home.
