RMU Fans, Students Excited To Advance To NCAA Tournament

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The Robert Morris University men's basketball team is headed to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010.

After  losing the Northeast Conference championship game three times in the past four years, the Colonials finally came out on top. They defeated St. Francis (Brooklyn) in Brooklyn, 66-63.

While the team is obviously excited, students are thrilled to see their team back in the national spotlight.

"The game was awesome. It was an electric environment. It was definitely one of the coolest NEC championships I've been too because it's such a small gym. It was just packed," 2013 RMU Grad Alan Buehler said.

Buehler went to the game in Brooklyn, New York so he could watch his team take on the St. Francis Terriers. He says he was on the edge of his seat the entire time.

"To see our guys fight back and forth and be ahead and be down and tied and then only win by three at the buzzer, it was awesome," Buehler said.

Fans say it couldn't have been done without the help of head coach Andy Toole.

"I think he's a great coach. I love his energy. He's just into the game talking to refs and yelling at players," RMU sophomore Zach Jarvis said.

Fans say the energy on campus will be electric once students return from spring break..

"I think everybody will be pretty excited. It will be nice for everybody to come out and cheer together and give our team the backing they need and give them an extra push," 2005 RMU alumni Tamaira Binion said.

When the Colonials head to the NCAA Tournament, they will most likely be a 16 seed which has never been beat by a number one seed before.
