Resident In Police Custody After Knoxville Duplex Fire
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) --- A resident was taken into custody after a duplex fire in Pittsburgh's Knoxville section Tuesday morning.
The fire started around 2:30 a.m. in the building in the 100 block of Bausman Street. A neighbor saw the flames and called for help.
Two people were inside the duplex at the time of the fire. Both of them escaped safely. A short time later, police took one of the residents into custody.
That resident has been identified as 46-year-old Brandon Bradley.
According to the criminal complaint, Bradley told police he set the curtains on fire on the first floor. Police say Bradley, who lives in the first floor apartment, said there was a Section Eight inspection of his apartment and it was not good.
He said he used a lighter to set the curtains on fire.
Bradley and a woman who lives on the second floor of the home were both able to get out safely.
The Red Cross assisted the woman who lived in the duplex. She told police she went downstairs when she saw smoke coming from Bradley's doorway. She reported seeing fire near the front window.
Police say the fire originated on the floor under the middle part of the window, near a cold air return vent.
