Report: Tomlin, Roethlisberger Combo Ranked 5th Best In NFL
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Having started their time together with a record of 87-50 and one Super Bowl title together, Mike Tomlin and Ben Roethlisberger have become one of the more formidable Head Coach/Quarterback combinations in the league.
Ian McCue of 247Sports.com recently put together a top five list of the top Head Coach/Quarterback combinations in the league, and Tomlin and Roethlisberger made the cut.
McCue writes about the recent struggles Roethlisberger and Tomlin have had, missing the playoffs in two of the past three years, but putting up an 11-5 record last year swayed him that these two are still one of the league's best combinations.
The whole top five is:
- Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, Patriots
- Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers, Packers
- Sean Payton and Drew Brees, Saints
- Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning, Giants
- Mike Tomlin and Ben Roethlisber, Steelers
Belichick and Brady, despite all the cheating allegations, still remain in many experts eyes, as the top Coach/QB combo in the NFL. With McCarthy and Rodgers at number two, you're unlikely to find many people that would disagree with them being rated so high.
The combinations of Payton/Brees and Coughlin/Manning could be heavily debated though. The Saints have won as many Super Bowls as the Steelers under their current combinations and while the Giants have won two to the Steelers one, they have struggled greatly over recent years with there being many rumors that Coughlin would be fired.
