Steelers QB Kenny Pickett undergoes ankle surgery, will miss game vs. Patriots

CBS News Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without their starting signal-caller for the near future.

Head coach Mike Tomlin announced that QB Kenny Pickett underwent surgery on a high ankle sprain. He will miss Thursday night's game vs. the New England Patriots.

Pickett isn't expected to be placed on injured reserve, according to NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport. He also says that is a sign the team believes he'll come back in the four-week window.

In Pickett's absence, veteran quarterback and backup Mitchell Trubisky would likely be the starter. Trubisky came into the game Sunday against Arizona and completed 11 of 17 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown to Diontae Johnson.

Pittsburgh plays host to the 2-10 New England Patriots on Thursday.
