Yankees Ivan Nova Traded To Pirates, Bastardo Also Returns

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - New York Yankees pitcher Ivan Nova has been traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates for two players to be named later.

Jon Heyman first reported the news on Twitter.

Nova is signed to a one-year, $4.1 million contract with the Yankees.

He's slated to be a free agent after this season.

The team says Nova made his Major League debut with the Yankees in 2010 and has gone 53-39 in 131 big league games (118 starts).

The Pirates also acquired LHP Antonio Bastardo from the Mets for LHP Jonathon Niese. The Pirates also get some cash in the deal.

The 30-year-old Bastardo, who spent the 2015 season with the Pirates, posted a 4.74 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 41 relief appearances with the Mets this year.

The Pirates also traded star pitcher Francisco Liriano, a controversial move among many fans.
