Fort Cherry School District To Heighten Security Due To Threat
MT. PLEASANT (KDKA) -- Fort Cherry School District in Washington County will be upping security measures this week due to a threat.
According to a news release, the threat found on a bathroom wall contained information described as "concerning."
There will be heightened security throughout the week at the junior/senior high school. Students are asked not to wear backpacks, and lunch boxes and purses may be searched.
"The Fort Cherry administration understands parents may have many concerns; however we would like to reassure all parents that the district is working closely with the local and state police to secure the learning environments for all students," the news release stated.
One parent told KDKA's Lynne Hayes-Freeland that they will not be sending their child to school tomorrow.
"My oldest son's in 7th grade, I have a son in 6th grade and my daughter's in 2nd grade, none of them are going," Jan McClelland said.
Earlier this month students at McGuffey were dismissed early because of a threat written on a wall and the same day a hit list showed up at Charleroi Middle School. Two students were disciplined in that case.
Parents say authorities should take swift action if they find out who's behind the latest threat.
"Suspend them please, just thinking about my daughter. She's scared," Tom Rockwell said.
"Expulsion from any district. There's cyber school now. If somebody, be it a joke or not, hints the cost of people's lives, they shouldn't be in any school district," McClelland said.
