Rep. Murphy's Mental Health Bill Gains Major Support

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy, an Upper St. Clair Republican, has been working on his mental health reform bill for years. Now, he's getting the support from the Speaker of the House.

Murphy tells the "KDKA Morning News" with Larry Richert and John Shumway,

"It's a huge boost to have the Speaker of the House and a couple days ago, the majority leader saying we need to be moving this bill," Murphy said while appearing on the "KDKA Morning News" with Larry Richert and John Shumway.

Murphy said he is continuing to work with both Democrats and Republicans to move the bill through the House and that it would, "reform the mental health system."

"Tragically, what happens whenever there is another one of these shootings or killings, or attacks, or suicides, it wakes people up again and this has been a very tough year and it's keeping members of Congress from falling asleep on this as people have done in the past," Murphy said.

Murphy hopes to have votes in the "next few days," but a lot more people in Congress need to work on passing it.
