Recchi Excited For New Opportunity With Pens
PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) – Player Development Coach Mark Recchi joined "The Cook and Poni Show" to talk about his new role with the Penguins and what it is like to be back in Pittsburgh.
"It is less coaching and more helping develop these young guys," Recchi said of his new position. "It's important to this organization."
He notes it's not a day-to-day role, but he will spend a lot of time in Wilkes-Barre and watching various college players. Recchi says that his relationship with General Manager Jim Rutherford helped in landing the position.
"I really like the building of the organization," he said. "It's all a learning process."
Recchi is not sure if he wants to coach, but this year will help him find out .
Recchi's passion for player development started while he was playing. He is excited about this opportunity to help out players with whatever they need.
"I love doing it. I love helping out young guys," he said.
Recchi said its special being back in Pittsburgh because of the memories. When asked his best memory he says, "My first game getting called up to Pittsburgh was a special moment."
He finishes up by stating that there are a lot of people in the organization that know what it takes to win a Stanley Cup.
Recchi, who won a Stanley Cup three seasons ago with Boston, said any time you can surround yourself with players like Bill Guerin and himself, it helps the young players a lot.
