PUC Wants To Subpoena Uber CEO For Cease-And-Desist Stats

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Public Utility Commission investigators want to subpoena Uber CEO Travis Kalanick so he can appear at a Feb. 18 meeting in Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says the PUC is trying to determine how many trips Uber drivers took with passengers when the ride-sharing firm was violating a cease-and-desist order last year.

Uber has since been granted an experimental license to arrange private rides through much of Pennsylvania.

But PUC investigators say Uber has so far not responded to requests for information on how many rides its drivers offered before it received the state's approval last fall.

The PUC is seeking possible fines of $19 million and $1,000 per day, since Oct. 3, until it receives the information.

Uber officials planned to respond to the subpoena request Wednesday and say they look forward to resolving the matter soon.
