PSU's James Franklin Not A Huge Fan Of Twitter, But Embraces It
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Penn State football coach James Franklin joined "The Fan Morning Show" on Tuesday to talk about his program with the final week of spring practice underway.
Franklin told the guys that being a little stir-crazy with his family out of town has pushed him to work especially hard this spring.
"I'm not a sleep-in-the-office guy," Franklin said. "I've never done that in my entire career, but after two months of staying in the hotel here, my family hasn't moved here yet- they're still in Nashville finishing up school - and I'm here until 11 o'clock at night and back in usually around 5 [a.m.] or so. It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense for me to go home and sit in a rented apartment by myself, so I've been in my office for about a month. Besides practice, I've never left the building."
He admitted that the scholarship limits he's facing due to NCAA sanctions are forcing him to get his players developed quicker and avoid redshirts whenever possible.
"We're going to have to fast-track everything," Franklin said.
He explained that he's not a big social media guy, but that he uses it because he recognizes its value.
"To be honest with you, I'm not a huge fan of Twitter and all these social media things," Franklin said. "But, it's a way for me to connect with fans. It's a way for me to connect with alumni and recruits that I wouldn't have the ability to do without it. So, when you have a resource like that, you've got to take advantage of it."
He's excited for Saturday's Blue-White game, and expects a sellout crowd for what he sees as a special experience.
"It's like a family reunion," Franklin said.
