Presidential Candidates Eat At Local Restaurants

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Can't a guy, or a woman, eat a sandwich in peace? Not when they're running for president. At Primanti Brothers in Market Square, Hillary Clinton devoured a capicola sandwich, fries and all.

Across Market Square, the Original Oyster House hosted McKees Rocks native John Kasich. Oyster House owner Lou Grippo says it was not a private lunch.

"We had so many cameras here. We had, I'd say, fifty cameras. We had them from Ohio, from Erie, we had Harrisburg. And they all wanted to get in first. So they ran in, hogged up all the space in the bar," Grippo said.

Wall photos include a candidate named Jimmy Carter.

As for Mr. Kasich, Grippo says, "He wanted to be up on the wall. I told him when you become president, you can go up on the wall."

Pamela's Restaurant hosted a candidate who did become president. Barack Obama stopped there on his road to the White House. Manager Jon Bubin says the president loves those pancakes.

"This is where Obama sat," he pointed out a table in the middle of the room. "He was the senator of Illinois at the time."

He says a White House connection is good for business.

"We've had customers from Sweden that came here just because Obama came here. He wanted to sit at the exact table, and everything. People come from all around just because of that," Bubin said.

Proper table etiquette has become a campaign issue. Donald Trump accused John Kasich of stuffing his mouth with pancakes. But Trump was also mocked for eating a pizza with a knife and fork.

Bon appetite!
